Runners at this year’s Paisley 10k Road Race and Fun Run showed just how big-hearted they are in a special fundraising initiative for British Heart Foundation (BHF) Scotland.
Participants registering for the race online were, for the first time, able to make a charitable donation.
More than £1,600 was raised for BHF Scotland, with further cash donations on race day taking the total over the £2,000 mark.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall and Louise O’Connell of race sponsors Hillington Park presented a cheque to BHF Scotland fundraising volunteer manager Carole Nicol.
Provost Hall said: “This year’s race was bigger and better than ever with a record number of runners – it’s a real fixture in our events calendar nowadays.
“Many of those people ran to raise money for a charity of their choice, and it’s hugely encouraging to see how many gave to BHF Scotland at the same time.
“For a number of years now, Paisley has been a ‘Heart Town’ and the people of Paisley do so much to raise money for this worthwhile charity.”
Louise O’Connell of Hillington Park said: “This was the fourth year we’ve sponsored the race and we’re delighted to be associated with such a popular event. Some of our senior management team chose to run this year for the first time, so the healthy heart message is definitely getting out there!
“It’s a pleasure to be able to help such a charity which makes such a difference in people’s lives.”
Carole said: “Coronary heart disease is still Scotland’s single biggest killer. It affects such large numbers of people that almost everyone will have a family member or friend affected by it.
“The extremely generous donations of the runners are a great help to our work here in Paisley.
“Events like the Paisley 10k are so important to us because they get the healthy lifestyle message out and they are a perfect opportunity to raise BHF Scotland’s profile.”
