Saints make the trip to Perth looking for a boost after 2 losses in the space of a week. Danny will surely be looking to give some of the fringe players a try to lift morale. Murray, McGregor & Mooy are the only absentees this week and St Johnstone are only missing Davidson & Parkin. St Johnstone are still looking for a manager after Derek McInnes headed for Bristol, and are being managed in the short term by Cleland & Morris. Let’s hope the boys can raise their game and bring back the 3 points.
Picture this: Renfrewshire firm develops “ingenious” new iPhone camera device
An enterprising Renfrewshire company has helped create a new smartphone device that transforms the iPhone into an instant camera.
And the new device has already sparked interest from an Oscar winning actor.
Meso Design, based at Inchinnan, Renfrewshire, designed and manufactured the Popa device on behalf on Manchester based Beep Industries.
The lightweight device simply slots into the base of the iPhone and features a large red button that transforms the smartphone into an instant camera. Popa is due to go on sale at the end of this month and will retail for £49.99. A free app – available from the Apple Apps store – drives the device. Work is currently underway on an Android version.
StressLess is the new public education course, free to people who live or work in Renfrewshire.
The course will offer practical strategies for reducing stress in our bodies, lives and minds.
Run over 3 sessions of 2 hours, the format is:
- information sharing
- low-key participation activities
- personal goal setting between sessions.
Street Stuff kids enjoy ski slope visit
A group of young people from Renfrew enjoyed a visit to Xscape’s Sno!Zone recently as reward for their community spirit.
The youngsters carried out a clean-up of the King George V playing fields after being inspired by their involvement in Renfrewshire’s Street Stuff programme.
In appreciation of their efforts, a visit to Xscape was organised for a session on the ski slope provided free of charge by Sno!Zone.
The Street Stuff initiative provides a wide range of community and sports activities. The aim is to give youngsters things to do that divert them from antisocial behaviour and also help them contribute to the communities they live in.
Renfrewshire residents warned to prepare for benefit changes
Hundreds of people across Renfrewshire are being urged to start preparing now for changes that will cut their housing benefit.
Last year the UK government announced changes to Rent Allowance and Local Housing Allowance which will affect the amount of Housing Benefit people who rent from private landlords receive.
Around 1500 people across the area will find themselves receiving less money when these changes come into effect in January 2012.
Changes to the way Local Housing Allowance is calculated will affect anyone living in private rented accommodation and receiving housing benefit.
Councillor Allan Noon, Convener of the Council’s General Management and Finance Policy Board, said: “Although these changes have already been brought in most people’s benefit payments have been protected so far by a transitional period. However this will come to an end in January when people may start to notice changes to their housing benefit payments and will have to pay more rent to their landlords.”
The changes will also in particular affect anyone aged between 25 and 34, living on their own in private one bedroom accommodation and receiving housing benefit.
