Communities across Renfrewshire are preparing to commemorate Remembrance Day.

Members of the Royal British Legion and the armed forces will join representatives of Renfrewshire Council and a wide range of organisations and community groups at services.

Renfrewshire’s Provost Celia Lawson, who will be attending Paisley’s Remembrance Service, said: “This is a time for all of us to honour the service given by our armed forces and their sacrifice in military conflicts past and present.

“The services of commemoration are a time to remember those who gave so much for us.”

Free Festive Parking for Paisley Christmas Shoppers

Christmas shoppers in Paisley will find their lives a little bit easier thanks to a free parking scheme in the lead up to the festive season.

The scheme will see 1700 free car parking spaces available in the town every weekend from Saturday 12 November 2011 to Saturday 31 December 2011

Spaces will be available at all council car parks including on-street parking, as well as the Piazza and Paisley Shopping Centre car parks.

Renfrewshire Council Leader Brian Lawson said: “We know it’s a very busy and expensive time of year for people so the free festive parking scheme is a way of making it easier for people to come into Paisley town centre and do their shopping.

The official opening of the new Merchant Lettings office at 81 Causeyside Street, Paisley, took place on 3 November, when guests from the Renfrewshire business and property communities attended a launch event at the nearby Watermill Hotel. Merchant Lettings is an ambitious company with a fresh approach which has capitalized on local skills and knowledge by taking over an established local firm: Homes Residential and retaining the services of Director, Michael Jardine.

Top authors book into Foxbar Library

Three top childrens’ authors are set to visit a Paisley library this month.

Simon Puttock, Margaret Ryan and Lynne Rickards will all pop into Foxbar Library to read from their books and talk about what inspires them.

Simon Puttock, author of Mademoiselle Gorilla will appear on Saturday 12 November between 10.30am and 11.30am.

Simon, who was born in New Zealand and now lives in Edinburgh, has written over 20 books for younger children including “Little Lost Cowboy” which was the winner of the 2006 Royal Mail Scottish Children’s Book Awards.  His books are well known as being funny and engaging, and loved by children.

Paisley.org.uk have booked a spot at the St. Mirins Cathedral Car Boot Sale taking place on Saturday 19th November from 9am till 12 noon

All proceeds will go to paisley.org.uk to help us promote the town in a positive way.

Liz Johnson visited St James’s primary School in Paisley today (November 7th 2011) to promote the BT London 2012 partnership which they are doing at roadshows, presentations, team meetings, recognition events, and development workshops, and also help youngsters see that they can achieve greatness through sport too no matter what challenges they face.

Liz Johnson won gold at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics and is fully focussed to do the same in London 2012.

Liz who first began swimming at the age of three in the hope that it would help her cerebral palsy became part of the British Paralympic swimming team at the age of just 14-years-old. She went on to win three gold medals at the IPC World Championships and silver in her debut Paralympic Games in Athens in 2004.

Stacey set to switch on Paisley

Singing sensation and TV star Stacey Solomon is set to light up Paisley as the headline act at this year’s Christmas Lights Switch On event.

Stacey, who shot to fame on the X-Factor and finished third overall, will perform to thousands at the event in Paisley town centre on Saturday 5 November.
