Help Provost Cameron light up Renfrewshire this Christmas

Renfrewshire’s Provost, Lorraine Cameron is once again inviting children of primary school age to design a Christmas card for 2024.

Three winners will be selected with each winner having the chance to push the button to switch on the Christmas lights in either Paisley, Johnstone or Renfrew.

Five people, including Santa Claus, a girl with reindeer antlers, and Provost Cameron, pose and smile at a festive Christmas event in Renfrewshire, with a large crowd, twinkling lights, and artificial snow in the background.

The winning designs will also be recreated in a digital format as Provost Cameron’s official Christmas cards and sent out all over the world.

The theme for 2024 is “Christmas Dinner”.

Although there will be only 3 designs chosen for the Provost’s official cards, every card that is submitted to the competition will be forwarded to I Am Me Scotland, who will arrange for them to go to our elderly residents across Renfrewshire.

‘I Am Me Scotland’ is a multi-award winning charity working towards changing attitudes and behaviours so that disabled and vulnerable people can feel safe within their communities.

Each card should include a message, for example ‘I hope you have a lovely Christmas’, and be signed with the child’s first name, age, and name of their Primary School.

Provost Cameron said: “I’m delighted to be bringing back my Christmas Card Competition again. Switching on the Christmas lights is a really important job and I need someone to help make sure it all goes smoothly.

“This year I want to see cards with a Christmas Dinner theme. You can be as creative and fun as you like. Maybe it’s your own Christmas dinner with your family, or maybe it’s Santa having Christmas dinner with the reindeers! I want to see them all.”

All entries should be on A4 card or paper so that it can be folded into an A5 card with the message inside.

The image of the 3 winning entries will be replicated in a digital format, so although you’re free to use glitter or other decorative items, we won’t be able to replicate that for the Christmas cards.

Entries must be received by Thursday 24 October and can be posted to:
