NC Graphic Design and Animation Students from West College Scotland have been invited to submit a mural design into an exciting competition by forward thinking Paisley company ‘Workwear Made Easy’. With generous cash prizes on offer the top three designs will also be given the opportunity to have part of their design embroidered onto a garment of their choice!

Having made their name in the branded school uniform and sportswear markets Workwear Made Easy are now expanding the workwear side of their business. The design brief explains that the concept should explore the diversity of the businesses and employees that use workwear i.e.: – hospitality/building/healthcare etc. It is hoped the designs can communicate and explore cultural diversity and break the gender stereotypes associated with what is traditionally perceived as a ‘Workwear Wearer’.

To kick start the creative process the students were invited to the factory to scope out areas suitable for artwork and see products being produced.

Lecturer Deborah Dennett said “This is a fantastic opportunity for the NC Graphics students to make real connections to industry and discover where their skills come into play in the branded garment market. Students heard about the technical requirements and formats required for logos and graphics and the importance of mastering the software they are learning to use in class. On the tour the group had the chance to ask any questions to Workwear Made Easy Managing Director Colin Hill and Business Development Margaret McGregor Oliver and I can’t thank them enough for offering the students the chance to work on this live project.”

Students are currently busy in the studio coming up with concepts and ideas – the winners will be announced in late February.
