October 20, 2022Community groups and third sector organisations are being encouraged to apply for funding to support projects that help people and communities recover from alcohol and drugs.
The Recovery Change Fund is part of the Renfrewshire’s response to the Alcohol and Drugs Commission and is open to groups that are running or want to run projects that help build social connection and support initiatives that will make a positive impact on individuals, families, and communities affected by alcohol and drugs.
The commission’s findings revealed that people with lived or living experience of alcohol and drugs felt they needed more community-based support. Local groups and organisations also said that they had experienced difficulties accessing funding to expand and grow the support they provide local people.
Through the fund, groups and organisations can apply for grants of up to £10,000. Funding can be used for expanding existing activities and piloting new projects or initiatives that support alcohol and drugs recovery as well as mental health, stigma and social isolation.
The £150,000 fund is part of the £2million Alcohol and Drugs Change Programme set up by Renfrewshire Council and local partners in response to the Commission’s findings. Applications must be submitted by 28 October and funding decisions will be made in November.
Depute Council Leader, Councillor Jacqueline Cameron, said, “The fund aims to support our community and third sector groups and organisations to do more of what they do best by supporting those affected by drugs and alcohol at the heart of their communities. During the pandemic, we’ve seen just how vital community groups and organisations are and this fund should help them try our new initiatives or expand existing ones.”
Alan McNiven, Chief Executive for Engage Renfrewshire, said, “This second round of applications for the Recovery Change Fund will be welcomed by local organisations who are seeking to provide support to those affected by alcohol and drugs. Third sector organisations are often best placed to develop new practice that has local reach and, importantly, is reflective of the voice of those affected by the issues. I’m sure the fund will add innovative activity to the existing excellent local practice and help many, many more local people.”
