Paisley Pirates head for the Ayrshire coast this Saturday as they look to progress to the semi final of the Scottish Cup for a third successive season. They take with them an 8 goal advantage after a big win over North Ayrshire Wild last Sunday at Braehead Arena, but coach Ian Turley is taking nothing for granted.
He said, “We’ve gone into every game with the same level of preparation and in that respect nothing will change for this weekend. It’s a very dangerous path to go down when you take your opponents for granted and it’s not something we’ve done at any time during my tenure here, so it will be the same for this game.”
“We really didn’t play to the standards set and expectations required to play for the club on Sunday night and we simply cannot afford to take them lightly for the return leg. It’s too easy to write off teams when you have a sizeable lead and then find yourself several goals behind, they’re then flying with all the momentum and you’re on the back foot, so as far as we’re concerned we start at 0-0 on Saturday and perform to a higher standard than we did on Sunday.”
“We’ll be taking a good travelling support for the game at Auchenharvie Leisure Centre and we won’t just turn up with the intention of going through the motions as we couldn’t possibly let them down like that. I know a lot of supporters battled through the weather on Sunday just to make sure they got to the game, with some leaving hours before the scheduled start, as buses and taxis went off the road, and we simply can’t let down support like that with an under par performance. Some of the supporters came to watch us on Sunday without knowing if or when they were going to get home and I fully intend that we repay that loyalty and support with a good display on the ice.”
“We will be looking for the players to put in the kind of performance which has been a feature of our play this season. We’ve been working on various aspects of our play in training and I think that attention to detail has been reflected in our general level of play on the ice.”
