Twin town band bring their big brass sound

A 30-strong band from Renfrewshire’s Danish ‘twin town’ will bring their big brass sound to the area next week.

The FDF Gladsaxe Brass Band will play two free lunchtime concerts in Paisley.

The band will play Paisley Abbey on Monday 15 July (12.30pm – 1.30pm) and the town’s Cenotaph on Friday 19 July (12.30pm – 1.30pm).

The 30-strong band has toured extensively around Europe and is a previous winner of their national brass band championships.

Depute Provost John Caldwell is preparing to welcome the band and said: “I’d like to extend them a warm welcome and, hopefully, the weather is going to do the same!

“Brass bands are incredibly popular in this country, with a strong culture of brass brand participation in our industrial towns and villages. It will be so interesting and enjoyable to hear a band from another country playing.

“The abbey is such a stunning venue for concerts and I’m sure the band will sound excellent in these surroundings.”

“This is another great example of the cultural exchange that can take place when areas across Europe twin with each other.”

Both concerts are free to attend with locals encouraged to simply turn up on the day
