THE malls are alive to the sound of music in the run-up to Christmas.

Braehead has invited choirs and musical performances from a wide-range of charities and good causes to come into the shopping centre to raise much-needed funds for the work they do.

Choirs and bands will be performing every day until Christmas Eve for charities including Alzheimer Scotland, Beatson Cancer charity, Salvation Army bands from Paisley and Erskine, Glasgow Children’s Hospital charity, Renfrewshire Carers Centre and Renfrew Burgh Band.

The performances will be around the Christmas tree in the mall’s central atrium.

Shoppers at Braehead Centre are also being given the chance to remember loved ones who have passed on.

The mall is hosting a Salvation Army Christmas Tree of Remembrance this week, with people being invited to write the name of a departed loved one and a message as a Christmas decoration and hang it on the tree.

The eight-feet high tree is in the upper mall, near the HMV store and the Salvation Army will be on hand every day until Saturday, December 10.

And charities will be in the centre to help take the hassle out of Christmas wrapping for shoppers.

A gift-wrapping station is being set up in the upper mall near HMV between December 14 and 16 with donations to Ronald McDonald House Glasgow and the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity between December 17 and 24.

There is also a Renfrewshire Toy Bank Appeal collection point in the central atrium for donations of gifts for children and young people.

Braehead’s community development manager, Lydia Brown said: “We’ve lots going in the malls between now and Christmas Eve, which will not only entertain shoppers, but also help them get into the festive spirit.

“And we hope our shoppers will be as generous as they usually are to give whatever donations they can to the many and varied charities who will be performing at Braehead.”
