The older people of East Paisley are warmly invited to have their say over issues that affect their quality of life on Friday 13 March.
The meeting of the Scottish Older People’s Assembly (SOPA) will take place at the Alexander Wilson Suite, Paisley Town Hall PA1 1JF from 10.30-13.30 followed by lunch from 13.30-14.00. All are welcome.
This event gave voice to older people in Scotland to raise issues most important to them and improve quality of life for all as a result.
In the run-up to the event, older people around Scotland were asked the BIG question: “If you had the chance to speak at the Scottish Older People’s Assembly in the Scottish Parliament, what one action would you request to benefit older people in Scotland?”
Those issues were debated at the Assembly and an Action Plan agreed of priorities to take up with the Scottish and Westminster Governments or to campaign for change.
Now, thanks to £10,000 from the Big Lottery Awards for All Fund, SOPA is able to go back on tour in 2015 to allow even more people their say on the Action Plan issues. The 2015 series of meetings will also update older people who attended the 2014 events on how their issues and views were received – as well as the actions agreed to achieve the improvements they suggested.
Please register with Carolyn Russell on 0141 618 5598 or 0750 6944608.
She will also be able to arrange any transport, communications needs or dietary requirements.
Tom Berney, SOPA chair said: “Meeting people face to face in their own community has been so rewarding and fruitful. The issues raised have been wide ranging and so relevant to our aim of improving the quality of life for the increasing numbers of older people and those that will become older in the future.
“We’re absolutely delighted that the award from the Big Lottery allows us to go back on a second your of Scotland, to talk to people in their own areas and to bring with us our Action Plan for discussion. It is important the older people of Paisley make their voice heard.”
