Local communities in Renfrewshire can now apply for a share of £1.5million for innovative, sustainable projects that will enhance where they live.
The Sustainable Communities Fund has been created by Renfrewshire Council and brings together its existing Community Empowerment Fund and Climate Change Action Fund into one easy-to-access funding stream.
It will support community collaboration with the aim of regenerating local spaces and tackling inequalities, such as isolation, food insecurity, healthy eating, health inequalities and fuel poverty.
The fund is now welcoming applications from local community groups for potential projects which could include restoring or developing buildings, community initiatives like bike repairs, tools for hire or community kitchens, or local nature projects designed to tackle climate change such as planting projects, growing grounds or community gardens.
Other applications which could be funded include feasibility studies into community asset transfers, upgrades or new infrastructure for improvements to community spaces, or to support for the recruitment and training.
Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “As a council, we are committed to giving local people the chance to make positive changes to where they live and have shown this through our successful #YouDecide and Team Up to Clean Up campaigns, as well as investing millions into local projects through our Green Spaces, Parks and Play Areas, and Villages Investment Fund.
“People are making real change in their communities with our support and the creation of the Sustainable Communities Fund is another chance for local groups to access funding, transform their neighbourhoods, and help to tackle climate change in Renfrewshire.
“With almost £1.5million available, this is a real chance for people to carry out projects that will have a lasting legacy and officers are ready and waiting to support people with what types of projects they can apply for, and with their applications themselves.

Constituted community groups can apply for up to £10,000, £10-25,000 or up to £100,000 for their project in either capital and revenue funding in line with the fund guidance and depending on its size and scale. This allows both small- and large-scale projects to be considered and council officers are available to provide advice and support to all applicants.
The remaining money within the two council funds has been boosted by £650,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund – Communities and Place.
