November 14, 2016Johnstone is set for an afternoon of festive family fun this weekend as the Christmas lights are switched on in the town centre.
Saturday (19 Nov) will see thousands descend on the town centre to take in a variety of entertainment that will put adults and kids alike into the Christmas spirit.
From 12noon, the Pulse FM DJs will host the main stage- set in Houston Square- with performances from up-and-coming musicians set to entertain the crowd.
Younger visitors can take the opportunity to visit Santa’s grotto in Johnstone Town Hall- which will also feature a Christmas market run by St Vincent’s Hospice and storytelling sessions by the Regal Storytelllers.
The children’s entertainment doesn’t end there however with face painting, puppet shows and circus workshops all taking place throughout the day.
Kids can also visit the funfair in Houstoun Square as well as having the chance to meet some of Santa’s reindeer at a special pen in the town centre.
At 5pm, Renfrewshire’s Provost Anne Hall will be joined by a lucky competition winner on stage to push the button and light up Johnstone for the Christmas period.
Provost Hall said: “The events continue to come thick and fast over the winter period and I’m looking forward to the big switch-on in Johnstone this weekend.
“There’s a fantastic line-up of entertainment for both kids and adults and the town centre is sure to be buzzing all afternoon.
“I’m looking forward to turning on the lights with our lucky competition winner and I hope to see you all there for the big moment.”
The lights switch-on is organised by Renfrewshire Council as part of its town centre events programme.
