People of all ages to Reclaim The Night in Renfrewshire
November 21, 2025Renfrewshire Council have awarded a contract to deliver the Ferguslie Park Greenline – Belltrees project as part of the next stage of the area’s regeneration.
The project represents an investment of more than £600,000 in the area and is part of The Making of Ferguslie—a long-term, community-led framework developed in partnership with local residents to reimagine the area and deliver lasting change.
It will restore 2.69 hectares of derelict land and includes:
- A new multi-functional greenspace
- A natural play trail, event space, and new landscape features
- Two new shared pedestrian and cycle routes linking to local schools and services
- Enhanced biodiversity through native planting and grassland management
- Drainage improvements to manage surface water during rainfall
Construction will be carried out by MacKenzie Construction Limited and is expected to begin in January 2026 and be completed in Summer 2026.
Councillor Andy Steel, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Economy and Regeneration Policy Board, said: “This is another fantastic step forward for the regeneration of Ferguslie Park as projects continue to be delivered that make a real difference to the local community and the people who live there.
“This project will bring back into use a significant piece of land for residents and visitors to enjoy and it follows on the back of the new Neighbourhood Centre activity space being created which is already extremely well used by local people.
“We’ll continue to work hard to deliver exciting, beneficial projects for Ferguslie as we continue its transformation and ensure it remains a place that people are proud to live.”
The Making of Ferguslie sets out a shared vision for Ferguslie Park, with a focus on transforming underused land, enhancing greenspaces, and supporting local initiatives. The programme is already delivering visible results, with key projects now complete or in development.
The Ferguslie Green Line is a new green corridor that will connect key parts of the area and provide a vibrant, multi-functional space for residents. A new activity and recreation space in the heart of the neighbourhood was completed earlier this year as the first phase of the Green Line.
It follows a number of community-led improvements, which include the transformation of Craigielea House into an artist studio and social space called the Sculpture House and the creation of new growing spaces on previously underused land. The plan also complements the completion of 101 new council homes at the site of the former St Fergus Primary School.
The project has been funded from the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme (VDLIP) and Place Based Investment Programme and the UK Government Strategic Prosperity Fund.
