Renfrewshire Council Wins National Award for Digital Procurement Innovation
November 12, 2025Glasgow Airport launched its Miles Closer campaign, a bold new initiative highlighting to passengers across its catchment area the benefits of flying from their local airport instead of travelling to others further afield.
The campaign, which was rolled out across print, outdoor, digital and broadcast media, targets postcodes in the west of Scotland and beyond, reminding travellers they don’t need to spend hours on the road to catch a flight.
In 2025 alone, the airport announced 12 new routes and services, including the news United Airlines will return to Glasgow in 2026 to reinstate direct flights to its New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport. In October, Wizz Air launched flights to Rome and Milan and airlines such as easyJet, Ryanair, Jet2, Loganair, BA Cityflyer and SunExpress have all added new services.
For many, flying from an airport miles away from home may have once made sense but with Glasgow Airport’s growing network of destinations and enhanced passenger experience, it’s time to rethink that journey and Go For It from their closest airport.
Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer at AGS Airports which owns Glasgow Airport, said: “For several years, we have observed many local passengers traveling from other airports further afield and quite simply this was because we did not have enough options available to them from Glasgow.
“This is all starting to change as we have committed significant investment in expanding our route network which is yielding great results already.
“We have added Rome, Milan and also the welcome return of direct flights to New York, all of which have been well received by our passengers and business partners alike.
“In fact, Glasgow will have seen 25 new flights announced in 2025 and 2026 alone, building on the existing network operated by the 19 airlines serving the biggest city in Scotland.
“This Miles Closer campaign is to ask our passengers to get back to where they once belonged, flying from their local airport, with more time to spare and less stress on the road.”
Passengers flying from Glasgow can also enjoy a range of premium services designed to make travel easier including twilight bag drop for early morning flights, priority security for faster access and lounge access for a relaxed start to any journey.
Glasgow Airport, which is part of AGS Airports, was acquired by one of the world’s leading private airport operators, AviAlliance, earlier this year who subsequently announced plans to invest £350 million in the future growth and decarbonisation of AGS over the course of the next five years. This will include a comprehensive transformation of Glasgow Airport’s main terminal building.
