November 4, 2024Communities are having their say on Renfrewshire’s future by taking part in early engagement for the next Renfrewshire Local Development Plan.
The Development Plan Scheme, which councillors will be asked to approve at this week’s Planning and Climate Change Policy Board, sets out the Council’s programme for preparing and reviewing its Local Development Plan, including what is involved at each stage of the process and a timetable for the preparation of the plan.
The Local Development Plan – which will be the third of its kind for Renfrewshire Council – will set out a long-term vision on how land is used over a ten-year period and will come in to effect in 2027.
The Development Plan Scheme also includes a participation statement outlining how key stakeholders and Renfrewshire communities will be involved in the Local Development Plan, with some early engagement already having taken place.
From March to May 2024, developers and members of the public submitted ideas and proposals for specific places in Renfrewshire as part of a ‘Call for ideas’ survey. The submissions will be fully assessed and consulted on in 2025 as part of the preparation of the proposed Local Development Plan.
Engagement workshops have also taken place with young people across Renfrewshire and a second survey asking for general views on Renfrewshire’s places is also open for contributions.
Councillor Jim Paterson, Convener of Renfrewshire’s Planning and Climate Change Policy Board said: “It’s great to see members of the public taking part in early engagement for the new Local Development Plan. The new plan will be place-based and people-centred, developed collaboratively with communities across Renfrewshire.
“Our initial call for ideas survey generated a wide range of suggestions from residential and commercial development to creating parks and recreational spaces for community use. These will be assessed before coming back for consultation to ensure everyone can contribute to the formation of the Local Development Plan.”
