More than 250 pupils from across Renfrewshire have taken part in a multi-sport Primary School Games to mark the end of term. The Renfrewshire Primary Games was held at the On-X and brought together pupils from 20 schools. Hosted by OneRen’s Active Schools Team, the pupils enjoyed competitions in football, netball and dodgeball.

The event was opened with a ‘world cup’ celebration with pupils dancing and waving flags to mark the Netball and Women’s FIFA World Cup coming this summer.

Robert Agnew, Active Schools and Community Club Manager, said: “The football was a great spectacle, with lots of the children taking part in the competition. In our dodgeball challenge, we had teams qualify from all over Renfrewshire, with Wallace Primary School coming out on top. In netball we also had teams competing from their local area qualifiers and the winning school was St Paul’s Primary School.”

Fiona Watson, Sport and Health Services Manager at OneRen, added: “It was brilliant to have the Primary Games return – the first time since the pandemic. It’s a real celebration of sport and it was fully embraced by all the schools that attended.

“There was a great competition and fair play on show across our two competitive sports in dodgeball and netball with football being a fun festival which gave young people an opportunity to play the game they love for their school. We look forward to running this again and hope it will be even bigger and better.

“I want to thank all the OneRen staff involved, school staff and partners that helped us make the event possible – we will see you in 2024 for more!”

Renfrewshire kids can still keep fit and active over the school holidays by signing up for OneRen’s Summer Kids Camps. OneRen’s Summer Kids Camps run from 3rd July – 11th August 2023. Brought to you by Active Schools Renfrewshire, the camps will be full of a mixture of fun indoor sporting activities, outdoor activities, football, dance and ASN sessions. Running across the Summer holidays at On-x Linwood, Park Mains High School and Lagoon Leisure Centre. More info here: https://www.oneren.org/sport/summer-kids-camps/
