The Bungalow have Straighten Out on tonight. They are said to be the world’s premier Stranglers tribute band and they come with an extensive set-list that spans two solid hours. They re-create the ‘early years’ sound of The Stranglers, complete with a Hammond organ and Minimoog synth; the same models used by Mr. Greenfield himself, back in the day!
The growling bass sound and the quirky guitar riffs are all there to be heard as they rip through the Stranglers’ classic: ‘Peaches’, ‘Hanging Around’, ‘No More Heroes’, ‘5 Minutes’, ‘The Raven’, ‘Walk On By’, ‘Straighten Out’, ‘Down In The Sewer’ and many more.
Straighten Out will take you on a nostalgia trip that transports you back to those raw, powerful, exhilarating times when The Stranglers emerged through the quagmire of mediocrity to produce some of the finest music ever written. The Bungalow Mod Afternoons have been very popular and tomorrow afternoon The M65’s are back for another full on set of mod classics. Doors are 2pm and it is free entry.
Tomorrow night The Foo Fifers pay tribute to the mighty Foo Fighters. The Foo Fifers give you an energetic, explosive show and the band goes to every effort to reproduce the raw power and dynamics of the Foo Fighters. The set is full of songs played with energy and passion that you would see and hear at a Foo Fighters live show. You can pay on entry and doors are 7pm.
On Sunday evening The Bungalow welcome Mr Pink Scotland’s only Level 42 tribute act and one of only a handful worldwide. The show contains the hit singles and select instrumental pieces from the band’s earlier jazz/funk period. You can pay on entry at doors are 7pm.
The line-up for The Bungalow Introducing Night is indie rockers Pandas, Shep and Bungalow regulars Scunnurt who are all up for a night full of Halloween fun, fancy dress encouraged. Tickets £5/3 students and doors are 7pm.
I first saw Goodbye Mr. MacKenzie play at Glasgow Green at an event I worked at, and since then I’ve always like them. It was some time ago and I’m glad they got back together again. The ‘MacKenzies’ are at Rocknrollas tomorrow night and get yourself along to see one of Scotland’s top bands. They released their first album, Good Deeds and Dirty Rags, in 1989. It entered the UK charts at No.16 and the band quickly attracted a large, loyal support north of the border. Incredible live shows and singles like the top 40 hit ‘The Rattler’ cemented a fond place in many a Scottish heart.
The band have worked and recorded with members of the Talking Heads, and toured with bands like Blondie, The Ramones, BAD, Afghan Whigs etc. Support is In The Plughole. You can get tickets at the door from 7pm.
Old Bohemia are at The Keg tonight from 9pm and tomorrow night it is the turn of Canyon also at 9pm. Tomorrow at 6pm The Black Triangles will be playing some rock and getting u to all sorts of their usual nonsense onstage at The Cave followed by one of Paisley’s best loved and longest running bands – Underwood Lane from 9pm. Midnight Crossing are on at 6pm Sunday. Rockabilly Band The Best Bad Influence are at Kennedy’s from 3pm on Sunday and from 4.30pm Moonshine Mojo will be playing at The Anchor.
The Old Swan have; Back in the Day tonight from 7pm, Wildcard tomorrow at 4pm, Clyde at 6pm on Monday, Lee James Tuesday, and Thursday 3pm and Duncan McLellan on Wednesday from 4pm.
This week’s Open Mic sessions are Abbey Bar on Monday with Dunky Hunter at 8pm, Jason Flood is the host at Gantry on Tuesday from 9pm; Johnny Barr will be at The Keg on Wednesday from 8.30pm.
