Dear Resident
We write to update you of an upcoming road closure on Smithhill Street, between Gauze
Street and Old Sneddon Street. The road closure will remain in place for an estimated 6
weeks.
As you may know, the current development of Abbey Quarter phase 4 is offering 81 modern
flats to the area. Whilst we regret the road closure, it is essential for water service installation
to allow the development to progress successfully. Similar news bulletins will be circulated to
advise on any future closures to the surrounding area.
The closure of the road is scheduled to commence on the 2 nd of May 2022. The area of road
which will be closed is highlighted in red on the attached map.
For vehicles using the multistorey car park, the new route of exit will be a right hand turn onto
central road. We have been advised that the traffic cameras which monitor the road to allow
only buses and taxis to use it, will be switched off to prevent any further disruption.
Coneworx will oversee the traffic management for the duration of the road closure; their
number is provided below so that they can be contacted for any emergencies out with the
working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm.
The works will be closely monitored both by Ashleigh and our approved sub-contractor
Advance Construction, who will be carrying out the work. We will endeavour to keep the noise
and disruption to the surrounding residents and businesses to a minimum whilst the works are
in place and apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
