Woman teams up with her niece to form a survivors’ group for domestic abuse victims

Rise Against Abuse

Aunt and niece team Lynne MacKenzie and Amy MacDonald have launched Rise Against Abuse Community Interest Company, a new survivors’ group for domestic abuse victims based in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. Rise Against Abuse offers support and advice to women trying to free themselves from abusive partners and offers a new ‘one stop shop’ to help women tormented by sexual, physical or emotional abuse.

“We want to give women caught in this cycle a way out and access to the justice system” says Amy MacDonald, Managing Director at Rise Against Abuse.

Rise Against Abuse offers:

Counselling

Legal Advice

Practical help

Access to the Freedom Programme

The women say discovering the Freedom Programme, a self help method created by Pat Craven, helped them to move on. The course examines the attitudes and actions of abusers, as well as the responses of victims and survivors, to help people understand what is happening to them.

The Freedom Programme is available now on zoom and Rise Against Abuse are looking into venues for face to face meetings in the new year. The Freedom Programme is free to everyone. For more information on the Freedom Programme, visit http://www.riseagainstabuse.com.

Rise Against Abuse

“We understand because we have been through this ordeal ourselves” says Lynne MacKenzie, Managing Director at Rise Against Abuse. “We are a survivor led organisation, all staff have been through abuse.”
