December 16, 2022I’d like to start this week by telling you a little about The Bungalow’s guiding principle of helping young people who would like to promote local music in Paisley. The scheme seeks help young up and coming music promoters and Freya McEwan who is part of the initiative is promoting her own gig on Sunday night. She has had a few under her belt and this one looks to be the busiest one yet with local bands Quartermass and Subtopian on the bill.
Freya is one of several up-and-coming young promoters who has cut their teeth at The Bungalow
with help from the management staff. Freya has been studying music management at UWS while working part time at The Bungalow in the office. She said “I’ve always been interested in the non-playing side of music, so I’m having a go at promoting, band management, social media, and admin. I’ll see where all that takes me when I finish my degree”
Talking about the night she says “Quartermass are a noisy, Jam, punk, doom, country, trippy, sexy, techno boy band to drink blood to and Subtopian Planning Board are a psychedelic, experimental rock band, seed you at 7.30pm.
TV Smith the founder member, singer and songwriter for the Adverts is at The Bungalow tonight. The Adverts, formed in late 1976, and became one of the leading bands in the first wave of British punk rock. In early 1977. They gained cult success with the Stiff Records single “One Chord Wonders”. “Crossing the Red Sea with the Advert” is still considered one of the twenty best punk albums ever released. In support is Fire Exit. You can pay on the door from 7pm.
Tomorrow afternoon, join in with the festive fun and dance to the music of The M65’s. It is free entry and doors are at 1pm and if you are a Bowie fan head down to The Bungalow tomorrow night because Spiders on Mars are playing. They are the UK’s leading David Bowie tribute band and are a full 6 piece with array of glamorous costumes and a set list consisting of both Bowie classics and fan favourites. You can pay at the door from 7pm. On Sunday The Christmas Open Stage is happening. The day is hosted by Erin Hepzibah and all ages are welcome. Free entry and doors at 1pm.
On Thursday The Bungalow Introducing Night welcomes Leisure Land, Sweet Bleach and Katie Lindsay to the stage for a night full of alternative indie music. Doors: 7pm Tickets: £5/3 student
Tonight, Rocknrollas take you back to the heyday of Bon Jovi with a great stage show from Just Jovi who are reputed to be Scotland’s Number 1 tribute. You can pay on the door from 7pm. Rocknrollas has sold out their Christmas Party Night tomorrow night so sorry if you didn’t get a ticket. Get in early next time.
The Cave has a doubler tomorrow starting with Sad Ida at 6pm followed by Dirty Jewels at 9pm and on Sunday at 6pm it is the Jim Keilt Jam Session. The Old Swan has Gordon’s Alive in tonight from 7pm and tomorrow afternoon from 4pm it is the very popular Wreckless. Clyde are in their usual slot on Monday at 6pm, Lee James will be performing on Tuesday and Thursday from 3pm and Duncan McLellan takes to the stage on Wednesday from 4pm. Mark McMillan is back at The Keg tonight for more banging tunes and Speak Easy Circus plus support tomorrow night. Both start times are 9pm. Jenni and the Blockheads are at The Anchor and kick off after the World Cup final at 5pm.
