Communities are being urged to ensure they have their say by voting for the projects they’d like to see improve their local area before the deadline of 11 December 2022.
As part of its community empowerment campaign #YouDecide, Renfrewshire Council made £1.2million available for infrastructure projects and every idea on the shortlist was put forward by a local resident.
The shortlist includes projects like upgraded play parks, additional street lighting, road safety improvements, and outdoor gym equipment – all part of the Council’s drive to use local knowledge to improve its communities.
To vote, residents should log on to www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/YouDecide and enter their postcode. They’ll then be able to see the projects in their area and vote on them in order of preference.
A total of £75,000 is available for each of the 16 areas, with a maximum of £50,000 available per idea, and the projects with most votes will be funded until all the money is allocated.
Councillor Michelle Campbell, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Infrastructure, Land and Environment Policy Board, said: “#YouDecide is a great way to utilise the local knowledge that our residents have to make improvements that will make a real difference to our communities.
“We’ve seen a great response so far with thousands casting their vote already, but we want to ensure as many people as people as possible have the opportunity to vote.
“So, please take part in the voting for your local area before 11 December and ensure that the projects that will be the most beneficial for your community are successful.”
Local libraries have be open for voting in-person, the project team have visited local community groups and roadshows have been taking place at key locations in towns and villages across Renfrewshire.
In addition, schools, community councils, local partnerships, partners and elected members have been contacted to ensure the chance to vote is extended as widely as possible.
Voting closes on Sunday 11 December 2022 and work to complete the successful projects will begin in early 2023.
