The Street Stuff buses have a new look and will be making appearances on the streets of Renfrewshire during the October school holidays.

Kitted out with game consoles, large TVs, music systems and up-to-date games, the buses allow young people in Renfrewshire to take part in video gaming and music activities in a variety of locations every week, ensuring there’s something on offer whatever the weather.

The full October week programme provides activities Monday to Saturday during the school holidays, with both afternoon and evening sessions available, offering multi-sport activities alongside the new-look youth buses.

A free, healthy meal will be provided at every session so the young people are fully energised to take part and all are welcome to attend.

Councillor Marie McGurk, Convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Communities and Housing Policy Board, said: “Our buses are looking great and will be really eye-catching out on the streets of Renfrewshire.

“Since the first bus was added to the programme in 2012 they have allowed us to expand the delivery of Street Stuff and reach young people in a larger number of areas, providing more opportunities for young people to socialise with their friends and keep active.

“Street Stuff makes a huge difference to the young people who take part and I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t come along yet to pop down to a session this October week and see what it’s all about.”

Street Stuff is a diversionary project run in partnership between Renfrewshire Council, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Engage Renfrewshire and St Mirren Football Club.

The programme began in 2009 in Renfrewshire initially to address issues of antisocial behaviour and is now a key feature for children and young people in our communities.

Alongside delivering the weekly activity programme, the Street Stuff programme also offers a range of educational activities around local issues and creates pathways to employment through training and volunteering, with many former participants progressing to employment within Street Stuff, or with other local partners.

The October Week camps will run alongside Street Stuff’s evening programme which hosts activities six days a week at venues across Renfrewshire.

Places are still available for some daytime sessions during the October week, and these can be booked online at www.renfrewshire.gov.uk/streetstuffautumn.
