The latest launch of Cash Cubs has taken place in St.James’ Primary School, Renfrew. Cash Cubs is a fun re-launch of Renfrewshire-Wide Credit Union’s school savings club. Bringing the concept bang up to date with the addition of the fresh and exciting Cash Cub mascot, primary school pupils are encouraged to get even more active with their school credit union or to join from scratch if they’re not already a member.

Alison Dowling is rolling out Cash Cubs across Renfrewshire primary schools. Alison said, “St. James’ primary school Head, Margaret Convery, has a long tradition of supporting our school savings club so I’m delighted that we have joined forces again with Cash Cubs. The staff and pupils have worked hard to bring Cash Cubs to the school, particularly teacher Mrs. Ruddy, our school credit union champion, and the parent helpers who will support primary 6 and 7 pupils in running their Cash Cubs collection every week in the school. We’ve had a fantastic launch day here in St. James’ with our special guest Cllr Bill Brown, and we can’t wait to harness the enthusiasm of the youngsters in the months to come. In fact, Cash Cubs helps budding savers to build up a savings habit that we hope will last a lifetime.”

Councillor Bill Brown said: “Cash Cubs is a fantastic initiative that’s being funded from the council’s £200,000 credit union development investment, and I was delighted to attend the St James Primary School launch of the initiative. It’s important to encourage children to develop good saving habits and forge early links with credit unions as this can have lasting benefits. Renfrewshire Wide Credit Union plays an important role in the community.”
