Local Horror Movie Filming Locations
Renfrewshire’s history as a filming location means that we can find some horror movie locations within easy reach. 1994’s Shallow Grave is a black comedy by Danny Boyle that stars Ewan McGregor, Christopher Eccleston, and Kerry Fox, with some moments of high tension and horror mixed in with comedy. While it was set in Edinburgh and was mainly filmed in Glasgow, Paisley’s Royal Alexandra Hospital was used for some scenes.
2024 finally saw the release of the long-awaited The Bench. This slasher film was directed by Sean Wilkie and is said to be inspired by classics such as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Lochwinnoch is one of the Renfrewshire filming locations used, although the scenes in the remote cabin here were filmed way back in 2007, before the production ran into financial issues. The upcoming Jack of Spades by Joel Coen is being partly filmed in Paisley and stars Josh O’Connor.
