Over 3,000 disabled children and young people in Renfrewshire are receiving essential disability support, according to the latest statistics.

Social Security Scotland data shows that at the end of December 2025 the families of 3,100 children and young people in the council area were receiving Child Disability Payment.

In total, the benefit has provided households in Renfrewshire with over £47 million to help with the extra care and mobility costs a disabled child or young person often has.

Shirley-Anne Somerville, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, said:

“I’ve met many families of disabled children and young people who have told me about the difference Child Disability Payment makes to them.

“Families can face many additional costs, from specially adapted clothing and equipment to transport.

“Child Disability Payment can help cover these costs. It is available to parents and carers, even if they are working or have savings and I urge everyone eligible to apply.”
