Renfrewshire Council have committed £10,000 to Renfrewshire Foodbank to support growing demand during winter.

The donation was agreed by elected members at the Council meeting in December and comes just after the foodbank stated supplies were running low.

The money will support the foodbank with their ongoing operations.

The continued higher cost of living is seeing an increase in the number of households using the foodbank. As part of Renfrewshire Council’s commitment to a Fairer Renfrewshire, this donation will help those who need this vital support.

Council Leader Iain Nicolson said: “Sustained higher costs of energy, food and fuel are meaning more households are finding it challenging making ends meet. We know locally more people are using Renfrewshire Foodbank and we want to support the vital work they do to help people who need it.

“The money allocated will help the foodbank deliver their vital services over the winter period. As a Council, we will continue to work to create a Renfrewshire where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and that means tackling the causes of poverty within the resources and powers we have.”

More than £1million in funding has been committed to the Council’s Fairer Renfrewshire 2025–26 programme. This includes funding advice support by the Council’s Advice Works team and Renfrewshire Citizens Advice Bureau.

Residents can get help with money and benefits on the Council’s website.

Anyone can get help from Renfrewshire Foodbank to receive a food parcel.

People can donate food, money or volunteer with Renfrewshire Foodbank.
