August 28, 2024A service for care-experienced young people provided by Renfrewshire Council has been praised for helping to turn lives around.
The Throughcare & Aftercare Service were inspected by the Care Inspectorate recently, who gave them a Very Good grade for both supporting young people’s wellbeing and the strength of leadership in the team.
The team were commended for their warmth and compassionate care and support they provide to young people, and for how they understood diversity and encouraged young people to express themselves and voice their opinions.
The report said there were very positive outcomes for young people in the service who were able to become advocates for themselves and others that had been built up from the team’s focus on encouraging young people to express themselves and voice their opinions.
The service’s approach to risk management was highlighted as both progressive and effective and the report stated it recognised all young people’s needs, including those who were most vulnerable.
The service was previously inspected in August 2020, and inspectors were satisfied with the progress made by the team since that inspection.
Councillor Emma Rodden, convener of the Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, said: “Ensuring care-experienced young people have the right care and support to thrive and prepare them for the transition to adulthood is vitally important not only as part of our commitment to all children and young people in Renfrewshire, but also as part of keeping The Promise.
“Our teams who work with care-experienced children and young people are thoroughly committed to ensuring they are loved, cared for and respected. This positive report shines a light on the valuable work the Throughcare & Aftercare Service provide to some of our most vulnerable young people in Renfrewshire and I thank them for everything they do.”
