Showcasing A New Collection of Digital Displays
There are a lot of exciting things that people can look forward to when the museum opens. In addition to the 60 digital displays, collection specialists have worked with local organisations to expand the museum’s core collection, with a particular focus on Ancient Egypt. This comes as Ancient Egypt seems to be enjoying a period of major popular appeal.
It’s a common subject of documentaries, but it’s turned into more than a historical setting in other media nowadays – it’s become a whole aesthetic. With that said, the refurbishment is not without its challenges. Years of neglect have led to issues including rotted roof joists, wet rot, asbestos, and extensive plaster repairs. As a result, the opening date has been delayed to 2026.
Other Updates Regarding the Paisley Museum
Kirsty Devine, who is the project director of the museum, has said that they have worked with 70 different organisations to try and bring their collections to life. They are also going to turn the Paisley Museum into a world-class museum space. To try and expand the collections offered, the Coats Observatory is going to be open to the public as well. This connects to the museum via new observatory gardens with ramps. This helps to provide step-free access between the museums.
Even though the museum’s opening has been delayed, it’s clear to see that there are a lot of exciting developments that will undoubtedly make it worth the wait. The opening is going to be a big boost to the local economy, and at the same time, it’s going to help draw people into local businesses. The project has currently had its budget increased to accommodate the new work that has to be done, but it is still on track to open next year to the public.
