Pupils, staff and parents of Ralston Primary School and Early Learning and Childcare Class (ELCC) are celebrating a positive inspection report.

Education Scotland graded the Paisley school as Very Good for learning, teaching, assessment, attainment and achievement. The nursery class were graded as Good for learning, teaching, assessment and children’s progress.

The inspection team said senior leaders and staff worked very well together to ensure a strong culture of positive relationships across both primary and nursery. This resulted in confident and articulate children who are motivated, independent and able to work in teams for their learning.

The approaches taken to raise attainment in reading and writer are effective, with children making strong progress in English and literacy.

There is high-quality learning through play experiences in both primary one and two classes, with teachers planning exciting activities that allowed children to develop their curiosity and creativity.

Achievements of pupils and the school and nursery are encouraged and celebrated by the head teacher and staff, who make sure as many children as possible benefit from the enriching experiences.

Jillian McGown, head teacher of Ralston Primary School and ELCC, said: “We are absolutely delighted with our inspection report and the recognition of a strong culture of positive relationships across the school, resulting in children being confident, articulate, motivated, co-operative and independent in their learning. This has been possible through the hard work of staff and support we receive from our families. We will continue to build on the good practice highlighted in the report as we focus on providing excellent experiences for our pupils.”

Councillor Emma Rodden, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s Education and Children’s Services Policy Board, commended the inspection result. She said: “I’m delighted that Ralston Primary has been recognised in this positive inspection report. These grades are the result of a lot of hard work and effort by teaching and school staff, pupils and families all working together to create an enriching learning experience for children. The strength of leadership in the school and the focus on celebrating achievements across both school and nursery are vitally important to helping our young people thrive.”

Janie O’Neill, director of Children’s Services, added: “This positive inspection result is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone in the school and nursery. It builds on many recent positive inspections we have had across Renfrewshire schools and I’m proud of the work Jillian and her team do to provide a high-quality learning environment and experiences for Ralston children.”
