Young people from across Renfrewshire helped celebrate Street Stuff’s 15th anniversary with a special football event.

Around 200 young people aged 10–15 attended the Street Stuff Football Festival at the SMiSA Stadium in Paisley, playing in teams on the pitch and getting the taste of what it is like to be a professional footballer.

Street Stuff is a partnership programme supported by Renfrewshire Council, St Mirren Football Club, Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue, and Engage Renfrewshire. It provides a range of sports and social activities for free to young people aged 8–16 at various locations across Renfrewshire six days a week, Monday to Saturday.

On top of football, basketball and dance, the Youth Bus also has WiFi, PS4 games consoles, iPads and seating for young people to sit and chat.

The team also deliver sport and wellbeing activities during some school holidays for children and young people aged 5–16.

Street Stuff also works with young people to support them into volunteering and employment through education and learning.

Stevie Gallacher, Street Stuff Manager, said: “It was a great turn out with all young people and parents having a great time.  I feel privileged to have been part of the Street Stuff programme for the last 15 years.  No two days are the same and working with young people is very rewarding seeing them develop and progress into positive destinations.”

Renfrewshire Provost Lorraine Cameron added: “Street Stuff continues to help young people thrive with weekly activities and regular events across the year that they love to take part in. It’s why the programme remains successful.

“Celebrating 15 years of the programme working within our communities is an important milestone. Working together in partnership, the programme has gone from strength to strength and helped young people feel connected with their local community.

“The football festival was a great success and gave young people an opportunity not many have had, hopefully inspiring their future career ambitions.”

A full list of Street Stuff activities is on Renfrewshire Council’s website.
