Read on to explore the process.

Apply Online

The first step to applying for an ECO4 grant is to use energy-saving Genie’s free grant checker. This will help in checking the eligibility and applying in twenty-three (23) seconds.

To be eligible for the ECO4 grant, you need to fall into the following list:

  • Income support, income-based job seekers’ allowance
  • Pension credit guarantee credit
  • Working tax credit
  • Child tax credit
  • Universal credit
  • Housing benefit
  • Pension credit savings credit
  • Child benefit (with dependencies)

It may seem simple to be eligible for the Grant, but you and your house have to meet the strict criteria for it.

Once your house appears in the eligibility, you will be connected to 30+ registered installers around the region. These installers have contracts with all of the major energy companies that are under the obligation to fund this such as Envirohomes Renewables Limited in case you are living in Scotland.

Provide Proof of Eligibility

The moment you complete the application process, now you will have to give proof that will confirm your eligibility. You will be asked for the documents that will show the details about your property.

To show the documents, you can simply take pictures of this evidence and upload them to the secure portal. It will take 5 minutes for you, and your evidence will be submitted to the installer.

Without submitting your documents to the installer, you cannot move to the next process of application.

Installer Assesses Application

This is the waiting step of the process. When you submit the evidence for the grant, the installer will take time to assess the application. Your documents will pass through desktop assessment to get the minimum uplift for the ECO4 grants.

You might have to wait for 48 hours to get a response from the installer that your eligibility is approved.

Installer Books Free Survey

This is the step that will lead to receiving the grant sooner. First, the installer will call you to explain the scheme and check if your house is eligible for the Grant. If your house seems a perfect fit for the requirements, they will set up some time to arrange a free survey of your house.

A qualified surveyor will come and visit your house to assess it for the Grant. They will inspect the heating, insulation, and ventilation. They will guide you and give you answers to any questions you might have.

They can even ask you for proof of eligibility. You can show them the document of your house and energy bills to proceed.

Retrofit Coordination

Lastly, when you are done with the free, no-obligation survey, the surveyor will report the survey to the registered installer.

Later on, the installer submission team will review all of the property information against the scheme rules. Next on the installer will liaise with the energy company and seek provisional acceptance of the grant. Here, you will have to wait for 2 weeks until the installer gets the approval internally and externally from the Energy Company. The installer has to get the surety for the acceptance of application. This way, they will get the funding to install new energy-efficient things in your house.
