May 23, 2023Biggest disappointments of the Premier League season
May 23, 2023A new poll showing 70% of voters in Scotland think that Brexit has been a failure has been highlighted by a Renfrewshire MP.
The fresh Brexit polling also found that a massive 80% of voters in Scotland think the Westminster government has handled Brexit badly.
The survey, conducted earlier this month, revealed that only 6% of people in Scotland believe Brexit has been a success.
The cost of living crisis has been widely linked to the ongoing Brexit disaster, with food prices soaring higher than anywhere else in Western Europe, and regular shortages of fruit and vegetables on the shelves caused by increased red tape at the UK border.
Gavin Newlands, MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire North, said that Brexit was also having a real effect on the economy and pushing household finances ever closer to the brink.
And the SNP man said the results demonstrate how out of touch the pro-Brexit Labour party is with voters in Scotland, as they continue to line up behind the Tories in promoting the virtues of a damaging Brexit that’s hammered Scotland’s economy.
Gavin said:
“These findings just go to show out of touch Starmer’s pro-Brexit Labour party are with voters in Scotland.
“Renfrewshire and Scotland voted overwhelmingly to remain in the EU and voters are rightly horrified at the unmitigated disaster that has unfolded – and at the impact Brexit has had on households bills, making everyone pay for the Tory-Labour coalition on Europe.
“Westminster has made a total mess of Brexit, dragging Scotland out of the world’s largest single market, that’s eight times the size of the UK, against its will. That’s the cost of Westminster democracy in action.
“We have seen food prices rise by almost 20% over the last year, and it is crystal clear that the red tape and delays at the British border with the EU are having a huge impact on those rises, costing people dear.
“Clearly, neither Labour or the Tories have Scotland’s best interests at heart as they remain firmly wedded to their failed Brexit which has been absolutely devastating for businesses and households.
“With Labour and the Tories indistinguishable, the SNP are the only party offering voters in Scotland a route to escape the mess of Brexit and re-join the EU with the full powers of independence.”
