July 22, 2019Are you worried about inviting traders into your home? Are you unsure who to use? Maybe you are new to the area and don’t know any tradespeople? 
The Renfrewshire Trusted Trader scheme is a joint Council and Trading Standards initiative to help you choose a reliable local trader.
It is the only official trader scheme across Renfrewshire that is backed by the Council, with all members fully vetted by Trading Standards and is supported by Police Scotland.
All Trusted Traders agree to conform to a strict code of practice, including a Trading Standards monitored complaints process. In the unlikely event of a major issue, the scheme has an impartial Alternate Dispute Resolution service, who can provide legally binding judgements and acts as an alternative to court proceedings.
The key aims of the scheme are to:
- increase consumer confidence
- promote good practice within local businesses
- help prevent doorstep selling and doorstep crime
Trusted Trader was originally started by Dundee Trading Standards in 2005, arriving in Renfrewshire in 2012, and official Trusted Trader schemes now cover many areas across Scotland.
