You don’t need to learn professional video editing software in order to add music to your videos anymore. Thanks to browser-based tools like Flixier, you can add music to videos online quickly and easily, and you don’t have to download or install anything to your computer. In this article, I’m going to show you exactly how it works:

How to add music to a video

Step 1: Open Flixier

In order to use Flixier, you need to go to their website and click on the blue Get Started button. This will open the app in your web browser.

When you do that, you’ll be greeted by an Import menu. This is basically where you upload the video and song that you want to use. You have a number of different options here:

  • If you have the song and the video saved to your computer, you can drag them over to this screen.
  • If your video is on YouTube (or TikTok!) you can copy the link to it, click the Link option and then paste it there to import it directly to Flixier.
  • You can bring music over from SoundCloud by clicking on the SoundCloud button.
  • Lastly, you can also import media from any of the cloud storage platforms listed in that menu (such as Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and others)

NOTE: If you haven’t settled on a song yet, there’s no need to worry. You can always access the import menu later! You can also open the Audio tab on the left side of the editor to browse through a library of stock music. You can add this music to your video for free, without having to worry about copyright issues.

Step 2: Add the music to your video online

Now that you have all of your media, it’s time to combine it. Double click on your music track to add it to the timeline at the bottom of the screen (you can also just drag it over). Do the same for your video.

The timeline is how you control when your music starts and how long it lasts. If the music track lasts longer than the video, you can drag on its ends in the timeline to trim it and make them both last the same duration.

If your video already has audio playing and you want to get rid of it, all you need to do is select it and then turn the volume down to zero in the right side menu.

Speaking of this right side menu, this is where a lot of your audio editing will happen. You can select your audio track and add a fade-in or fade-out to it from here. You can also increase or decrease the playback speed.

If you want to enhance your music, you can add an Equalizer to it from the right side menu. There’s a large number of presets to choose from, like Bass Boost, Classical, Rock and more. If you want to go more in-depth, you can even create your own preset!

Step 3: Save your video

Now that you’re done putting music over your video, it’s time to save it to your computer or share it online. To do that, click the Export button in the top right corner of the screen. Make sure you select Video as the format from the drop down list and click on Export and Download. Your video will be processed in a couple of minutes and then it will be saved to your computer.

NOTE: If you have a Flixier account, you can give your video a Title, a thumbnail and a Description and Flixier will upload it to YouTube, Facebook or TikTok for you automatically. Just make sure you’re not using any copyrighted music or YouTube might take down your video.

So, now that you know how to put music over your videos, what are you waiting for? Flixier is free to try and doesn’t even require an account, so you can head over there and add background music to your videos right now!
