An incredible performance by the Netherlands in the Final, but Great Britain claim silver in the Men's Team Sprint, with another excellent performance from Jack Carlin!#Paris2024 #CyclingTrack pic.twitter.com/gerlJBr4vu
Team GB qualified for the final with victory over Germany, clocking a time of 41.819 in that semi-final encounter. They then bettered that time in the final, with a 41.814, but it was just short of the Netherlands’ new world record of 40.949.
Excellent Start to Cycling Events for GB
Team GB has a great record in the cycling events at the Olympics, and they justified their strong reputation again. Many of the team will be in contention to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2024, including cross country cyclist Tom Pidcock, who has odds of 20/1 with Paddy Power.
The sports betting guides show that the Olympics is such a big event in 2024, that it is no surprise that the betting for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year is dominated by those who have been successful in Paris. Team GB will be delighted with their medal tally, particularly in the velodrome.
Although the men had to settle for silver in the men’s team sprint, the women’s team did pick up gold a day earlier. They got the better of New Zealand in the final on the opening day of the events in the velodrome.
Elsewhere for Team GB, they won gold in the 4 x 200m relay in the swimming pool, as the BBC reported. Scotland’s Duncan Scott played a big role in that success. The man from Glasgow swam in the final leg of that victory, bringing the team home to victory for the second consecutive Games. There was also gold in rowing for the men’s eight and women’s lightweight double sculls.
Carlin Now Has a Strong Collection of Major Medals
The silver medal Carlin won in Paris brings up his 14th medal of any kind at the Olympics, World Championships or European Championships. He has established himself as one of the best British cyclists in history.
Carlin collected silver in the team sprint at the 2021 Olympic Games, while he landed bronze in the individual sprint. A year later, it was silver in the Keirin and bronze in the sprint at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Despite the tally, Carlin is still bidding for a gold medal, and he will now have his eyes on Los Angeles in 2028. The Scottish rider will appear at his third consecutive Olympic Games should he qualify for the team in four years’ time.
An unbelievable race from defending champion Jason Kenny earns him gold in the men's keirin at #Tokyo2020!

The 27-year-old has been working with former GB star Jason Kenny this year in his build-up to the Games in Paris. Kenny won gold in Tokyo in 2021 when he won the Keirin race. That partnership is set to continue later in 2024 and beyond.
Carlin will likely get a hero’s reception when he returns home to Paisley. He has once again done the town proud on the world stage.
