With its mix of history and family-friendly attractions, there’s a reason why Windsor is a popular destination for a wide range of travellers. While there are two major points of interest that draw people in – more on those below – make no mistake, this charming market town has so much to offer below the surface. With that said, here are five major reasons why you need to take a trip to Windsor:

1. Rich history to explore

It’s virtually impossible to talk about Windsor without mentioning Windsor Castle. Built almost 1,000 years ago, this royal residence is recognised as both the largest occupied and oldest castle on the planet. The splendour of Windsor Castle can be fully explored, giving you the opportunity to learn and experience its rich history. However, this is only the start in terms of historical landmarks in Windsor. This is arguably best evidenced by the stunning St. George’s Chapel. Set within the castle grounds, this intimate chapel was the setting for Prince Harry’s marriage to Meghan Markle.

2. Legoland Windsor Resort

Windsor’s other main attraction alongside the aforementioned castle, Legoland Windsor Resort is the town’s ultimate destination for younger visitors. The resort is a wonderland of thrilling rides, entertaining attractions, and all kinds of Lego-themed fun. Don’t be fooled into thinking the resort is only for kids, either. There are plenty of activities available for older guests to get a kick out of when visiting the resort.

3. Windsor Great Park

In stark contrast to the intense energy and activity of Legoland, Windsor Great Park is a slice of tranquil beauty. Although it is a rather large slice, as the park is spread across some 2,020 hectares. With so much land covered, it should come as no surprise the park boasts an extensive amount of scenic trails, sweeping parkland, and enchanting woodland that’s begging to be explored. Windsor Great Park also incorporates award-winning exotic gardens and a deer park.

4. Excellent selection of restaurants

When it comes to grabbing a bite to eat, Windsor has an exciting selection of food options available. Alongside the usual chain restaurants and fast food spots, the town features a diverse collection of highly-rated local establishments. If you’re after a traditional experience during your visit, you have to try out one of the pubs on offer that will provide you with a tasty meal and a family atmosphere. One that fits the bill is The Corner House pub. This family-friendly spot serves seasonal, freshly prepared meals and an array of beverages in a welcoming setting.

5. See a show

With the Theatre Royal positioned in the heart of town, it is easy to catch a show during your visit to Windsor. This theatre, a historical structure that dates back to the Edwardian era, hosts a regular calendar of shows. From comedy performances to musicals, the variety of productions ensures there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The schedule of shows is also consistent throughout the year, which means there will likely be something on – no matter what time you plan your visit to Windsor.
