September 6, 2010The Community Champions for the month of September:
ROAR is a consortium of voluntary and social economy organisations, based in Renfrewshire, working together to offer low level care and befriending services for older adults.
The delivery model for the service is a Public Social Partnership (PSP). Our partners include Citizen’s Advice Bureau, Renfrewshire Community Health Initiative, Renfrewshire Seniors Forum and WRVS and Alzheimer’s Scotland who also provide the services for ROAR.
Older Adult Social Isolation
ROAR aim to combat the crisis of social isolation within over 55’s in Renfrewshire. Using measures to help prevent decreasing health by improving health and well being and providing somewhere which is safe and friendly for older adults to enjoy social activity. ROAR hope by putting in place these preventative measures they will help to increase self confidence, maximise independence and ultimately improve the quality of life for Renfrewshire’s older people.
What ROAR Offer
ROAR have a lot to offer, including a befriending service for both home visits and out in the community. They can also provide transport to and from appointments or out to one of our ROAR clubs where members can enjoy a 2 course meal for only £2.
At their clubs members also benefit from advice services provided by Citizens Advice Bureau and a health & well being programme that includes hand massages, gentle exercise and games days. ROAR also provide handy person services to help with small jobs around the house.
ROAR Volunteering
ROAR always welcome new volunteers to help in any of their services. If you are a compassionate, helpful individual who enjoys being involved with your local community, no matter what age or experience you have, they may have the right volunteering position for you.
There are positions within their clubs as organisers, or befriending opportunities out with the clubs. There are also opportunities for drivers to provide transport services to older adults. Or you could help with our handy persons services.
As volunteers you can develop new skills and gain experience. You can give as much or as little time as you want, enjoy being part of a team and most of all help make a small difference to someone’s life.
