Lets get ready to Go! Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire residents are being invited to take part in two-week festival to celebrate the great outdoors of Renfrewshire.

Over the course of the two week festival it is hoped to that people will walk, run, cycle , row or horse-ride the equivalent of the 66 mile boundary of Renfrewshire many times over.

Go! Renfrewshire 2010 will be the area’s first ever outdoor activities festival.

As well encouraging people to get out and have fun, the aim of the festival is to promote what Renfrewshire has to offer and how it can be enjoyed responsibly using the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.

A packed programme of activities has been organised including walks, cycles, horseriding, picnics, treasure hunts and even Tai Chi.

A Renfrewshire Council spokesperson said: “GO! Renfrewshire 2010 is a two week festival to celebrate Renfrewshire’s great outdoors. We want to see as many people as possible getting out and getting active as part of the festival so have a huge range of activities on offer. Events are taking place throughout the area and to suit people of all abilities so there really is something for everyone.”

Go! Renfrewshire 2010 kicks off on Saturday 22 May with a launch event including music and activities in County Square, Paisley. A group of walkers will then lead a walk from Paisley town centre to Elderslie to join the village gala day parade.

Other programme highlights include a Paisley Mystery Tour, a walk to the old Barytes Mine at Clyde Muirshiel, an introduction to horseriding at Ingliston Equestrian Centre in Bishopton, a picnic on Gleniffer Braes, and Tai Chi.

There are also a number of groups aiming to walk or run the equivalent of Renfrewshire’s 66 mile boundary in the four weeks leading up to the festival and during the festival itself.

As well as Renfrewshire Council, other local groups taking part include, Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership, Paisley District Scouts, Lochwinnoch and Paisley Kayak Club, Castle Semple Sailing Club, Clyde Muirshielf Regional Park, Finlaystone Estate, and Ingliston Country Club.
