As we approach the end of the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership campaign, now is a good time to reflect on who have been the standout stars for St Mirren.
Here is a look at three players who have done enough to be considered the Buddies’ Player of the Season.
Joe Shaughnessy
No St Mirren player has featured more times for the club this season than Joe Shaughnessy. The defender has been a rock at the back for his side, while simultaneously coming up with goals at crucial moments in games.
One of his standout performances this season came against Celtic at St Mirren Park. The Buddies were able to hold the visitors to a goalless draw. Celtic are now as short as 1/25 in the online football betting to win the SPL title this season, so it goes to show what a huge effort it was from Shaughnessy and his teammates to earn a point from the game.
With Shaughnessy at the top of his game, St Mirren are likely to be one of the football tips for today for his side’s remaining fixtures in the 2021/22 Scottish Premiership campaign. The defender will be doing all he can to help his side pick up as many points they can.
Connor Ronan
Midfielder Connor Ronan was signed on a season-long loan deal last summer from Premier League club Wolverhampton Wanders and that has proved to be excellent business. The 24-year-old has had an outstanding season in a St Mirren shirt.
It is not just goals Ronan has added, he has been a key part of Stephen Robinson’s side’s attacking play. He is a very intelligent player with and without the ball.
Ronan’s performances this season have been enough for him to earn his first call-up to the Ireland senior squad. He was selected for friendlies against Belgium and Lithuania back in March.
Robinson will be doing all he can in the summer to try and keep Ronan at the club next season. He has a very bright future and hopefully that will be in Paisley.
Eamonn Brophy
Striker Eamonn Brophy did enough last season in his loan spell at St Mirren Park to earn a permanent contract at the club. The 26-year-old is now playing some of the best football of his career in Paisley. He has been a real threat in front of goal this season.
The former Celtic and Hibernian player has lots of experience in the Scottish Premiership, and he has proved this season that he can score scores on a regular basis in this league. Brophy is on course to end the campaign as St Mirren’s leading scorer in all competitions.
Brophy has one cap for Scotland, as he played for his country in a 2-1 victory over Cyprus at Hampden Park in 2019. He will be desperate to get back into the national team squad again in the near future. His performances over the last year will do his chances no harm at all.
There has been a lot to celebrate this season for St Mirren. With a strong push in the final stages of the campaign, Buddies fans will hopefully be very satisfied with the way it has gone.
