National Hunt Chase winner Le Breuil is due a run at next year’s Grand National after trying the fences at Aintree over the weekend.

The seven-year-old, who won the aforementioned Cheltenham Festival event back in March, was pulled up on his return over hurdles at Wetherby in November but was shut down by trainer Ben Pauling shortly after.

Le Breuil was back in the wind last Saturday, with things now back on stream at the stable, and impressed Pauling by placing seventh, behind Walk in the Mill, at the Randox Health Chase at Aintree on Saturday. He jumped well enough to leave a decent expression before showing signs of fatigue late on.

The horse finished 20 lengths behind Walk in the Mill but Pauling was pleased with the effort and is now eyeing April’s Grand National. “Le Breuil was very good on Saturday and jumped brilliantly,” he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo. “Jamie said he hasn’t ridden many that have jumped around Aintree as well as him, those were his words.

“He travelled into the race well and then got tired going across the Melling Road. It was basically like his first run of the season, as he didn’t really have a race at Wetherby. He didn’t stop and kept galloping, so I think it’s all systems go for the National and he’ll be prepared accordingly.

“I’m not sure what we’ll do between now and the National. We might run him again over fences as he thrived on his racing last season, but then he is on pretty much the ideal mark now, so we’ll have to see.”

Le Breuil is currently 40/1 for the prestigious Aintree event with Bet365, with Tiger Roll the favourite at 7/1. Meanwhile, punters could find a Grand National Betting Guide 2020 from Freebets.com while some key tips as it pertains to betting on horse racing, in general, could be found here. Walk in the Mill is considered to be the second favourite by Bet365, who also have odds going on that front at 14/1.

The bookmakers are offering 25/1 on Burrows Saint, 20/1 on Native River and 25/1 on Elegant Escape.

Skybet has 25/1 odds going on Alpha Des Obeaux and are offering the same on Pleasant Company, Any Second Now, One For Arthur, Sizing John, and Anibale Fly.

Pauling is also planning to have Kildistsart take part in the upcoming Silver Trophy at Ascot just ahead of Christmas Day. The seven-year-old returned to the track early last month, finishing third in the Colin Parker Memorial Chase at Carlisle, behind Lostintranslation.

“The plan is to run him in the Silver Trophy at Ascot on December 21,” Pauling revealed. “We toyed with the idea of the Many Clouds Chase at Aintree last Saturday, but we decided against it in favour of waiting for the handicap option at Ascot instead.

“He’s in good form and pretty well at Carlisle, considering how most of my horses were running at the time.”
