SHOPPERS sitting in the new Chatty Chairs seating area at intu Braehead are in for a pampering treat.

For an hour every Monday in November, staff from the Lush handmade cosmetics store will give a free hand and arm massage to anyone sitting in the special seats.

INTU Brehead,

The intu Braehead Chatty Chairs are in the upper mall and are configured to make it easy for shoppers to start a conversation with someone sitting next to them.

Signage at the chairs reads: ‘Take a seat if you don’t mind having a chat’ and they were introduced in a bid to tackle loneliness and isolation.

The move comes after the Age Scotland charity revealed that 282,000 older Scots feel lonely some or most of the time.

INTU Brehead,

When the Chatty Chairs were introduced earlier this month, the manager at Lush, at intu Braehead, Roisin Thompson suggested to staff they could give people sitting in the chairs a hand and arm massage while they were talking to them.

The free massage sessions will take place on Monday, November 4,11,18 and 25 for an hour between 11am and noon.

Lush store supervisor, Kimmy Arnold explained: “We thought the Chatty Chairs was a fantastic idea and it’s a lovely way for people to start talking to each other.

“We thought it would be nice if we could add to the experience, so we decided to offer free hand and arm massages to give those sitting in the Chatty Chairs a little bit of pampering while we talk to them.”

Lydia Brown, intu Braehead’s community development manager said: “Our Chatty Chairs have been very well received and this is a wonderful gesture from the staff at Lush.

“I’m sure the hand and arm massage will be appreciated by anyone sitting in the Chatty Chairs along with a bit of chat from the Lush staff.”
