Generally, drugs are bad, mainly because of how addictive they can be at times, but then how do you explain the steady increase in the consumption of cannabis in the UK.
Statistics from the Home Office Survey carried out in 2016 showed that the use of most drugs began to decline in 1996.
However it found that cannabis was by some distance the most commonly used drug, with 6.5 per cent of adults aged between 16 and 59 smoking in the previous year.
According to Kim at Observer, “Among those aged 16 and 24, weed was also the most popular drug, with 15.8 per cent using it in that same time.”
I believe there is something highly beneficial in the consumption of this drug, be it for medical purposes or recreational. My opinion though isn’t binding on anyone, but the law is.

It is a fact that possession, growing or distributing cannabis in the UK is illegal. If you are caught with cannabis, you are eligible for a term of 5 years in prison with an unlimited fine.
On the other hand, being convicted of production and supply of the class-B drug comes with up to 14 years imprisonment and an unlimited fine or both.
You can be fined or warned by the police if you are caught with small amounts of cannabis.
But then again, some police forces have taken a relaxed attitude to the recreational drug; this claim is backed by the fact that prosecution for cannabis possession are as low as 15 per cent in Cornwall and Devon, more so, police in Durham have said they will no longer target recreational users at all.
