Renfrewshire Council Leader Iain Nicolson met local postmen and women today and thanked them for their efforts over the festive period.

Leader with posties

Visiting Paisley Post Office, Councillor Nicolson met the posties as they prepared to head out on their rounds and deliver festive cheer all across the region.

Councillor Nicolson said: “We can often take the postal service for granted but what we can’t take for granted is the men and women who deliver our letters all-year-round.

“Their dedication and hard work is second to none and not least at Christmas time when there are more parcels than ever making their way through the system.”

Last Christmas, in addition to mountains of Christmas cards, the Royal Mail delivered 149 million parcels to homes across the UK as people purchase gifts online and send their best wishes to friends and family during the festive period.

Councillor Nicolson added: “It was great to meet the team behind our delivery service in Renfrewshire and my thanks go to them for their fantastic work in making sure our communities receive their mail this Christmas.”

The Council Leader was given a tour of the sorting office to showcase the process which begins with sticking a stamp to the envelope and ends with it dropping through the recipient’s letterbox.

Royal Mail recommend customers post their letters and gifts as early as possible with the last guaranteed posting dates this Christmas are Thursday 20 December (1st class) and Tuesday 18 December (2nd class).
