Pirates overwhelmed a plucky Stingrays side with a straightforward win which gives them two out of two in the Stuart Robertson Cup.

Most of the early play was around Morris in the home goal but it wasn’t until the 8th minute that he was beaten by Calum Blair for the go ahead goal. Pirates continued to press, with Donaghy in the away goal seeing little of the play, but they had to wait until four minutes from the end of the period before Sami Harju netted the second to double the lead and sent the teams to the dressing rooms with the visitors holding a handy 2-0 advantage.

In the middle session, the pattern was the same, with Pirates not extending their lead until the 29th minute through Hamilton, and with Johnston netting in the 36th minute Pirates had the game well under control by the end of the session, a 4-0 lead giving them plenty of breathing space.

With the game effectively over as a contest, Pirates were in complete control in the final session as the hosts failed to muster a single shot on Donaghy, while the goals rained in at the other end, Scott by this time having replaced Morris in the home goal. As their discipline started to go, so did the goal tally mount, as first Johnston, with his second, then Guy both scored on the powerplay to take the tally to six before the halfway point in the final period. In the final ten minutes, Stingrays wilted as Pirates netted another four goals through Blair with his second, Dobson making it eight, Johnston completing his hat trick, before Sarginson completed the scoring, bringing up double figures, with 90 seconds left

Pirates now have a break from competitive action until mid October when they commence their home programme against North Ayr on Sunday 14 October.
