A new destination brand and website promoting Paisley and Renfrewshire as a place to live work and visit has now launched – and has been given a thumbs-up by the head of Scotland’s tourism industry.

Paisley.is will be go-to place for everything locals and visitors could want to know about the area, and is a major milestone showing how plans to transform the area are moving forward.

The new brand and digital channels will signpost people to all the positive developments taking place across the area and is part of the legacy of Paisley’s UK City of Culture bid -telling the story of what Paisley is doing next and encouraging visitors and investors to spend their time and money here.

The Paisley Is campaign is central to a wider Renfrewshire Visitor Plan which aims to grow the local tourism industry to 3.3 million day visits to Renfrewshire a year by 2020 – which would generate £89m of visitor spend annually.

Visitors to the site can find out all the most up to date information on major events such as the Paisley Food and Drink Festival and Lochwinnoch Arts Festival, discover quirky stories about the area’s history, learn more about living, working and studying here and find out about investing in the area.

Malcolm Roughead, VisitScotland Chief Executive, said: “It is fantastic to see Paisley’s tourism transformation continue with the launch of this new brand and website. The town is home to popular attractions, such as Paisley Abbey, Paisley Museum, Coats Observatory and the Sma’ Shot Cottages; a rich and fascinating creative history and a packed programme of exciting events.

“The 2021 UK City of Culture bid was an important part of the journey to raise global awareness of Paisley’s internationally-significant heritage. The new Paisley Is website continues this effort, sharing Paisley’s story with visitors old and new. Tourism is a vital part of the local economy, creating jobs and sustaining communities.”

Renfrewshire Council Leader, Councillor Iain Nicolson said: “Living and working in Renfrewshire for many years and where my home and my family are, I know first-hand that Paisley and Renfrewshire has so much to offer, from our rich heritage and wide variety of visitor attractions, to the warm friendly welcome you’ll get from communities in our towns and villages. We want to make our place somewhere where everyone feels at home.”

The site has been designed to grow tourism and provides everything required to plan a visit to attractions and places of interest across Paisley and Renfrewshire, while giving those who live here something new to discover about their place.

The new destination brand was created with local people and businesses across Renfrewshire and sparked a global conversation that reached 170,000 people. The new site reflects what the people of Renfrewshire told us Paisley is – bold, friendly, honest, good fun, together and proud.

The launch comes at an important time for the area – thanks to Paisley’s bid to be UK City of Culture, our profile is higher than ever, and we are firmly on the map as a key destination within Scotland.

Now that the site is live we want to hear from those wanting to contribute to the website whether by submitting photography or providing reviews of local events, restaurants and attractions.
