Councillors today (Thursday 21 December) agreed a £100,000 fund for looked-after children to use towards educational, cultural, social and employability activities.

Councillor Jim Paterson, Renfrewshire Council’s Convener of Education and Children’s Services, said: “I have the distinct privilege of being a member of the Children’s Champions Board and I’ve been fortunate to spend time with care experienced young people from across Renfrewshire to understand what support they need.

“We have announced today a dedicated £100,000 fund which supplements our existing funding in place and will ensure these vulnerable young people enjoy the same opportunities as their non-care experienced peers.

“How this additional money is spent will be up to the children and young people in our care, but this fund is vitally important to ensuring they have a say in what works best for them.

“In Renfrewshire, we are ambitious for all children and young people to have the same opportunities and be able to reach their full potential, regardless of their background. This funding underlines our commitment to care experienced children and young people to ensure as Corporate Parents we provide them with the best start in life and the best opportunities.”
