Renfrewshire North & West MSP Derek Mackay is urging Renfrewshire residents to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of May’s Council election.

The SNP MSP is making a special appeal to 15-17 year olds, and may be voting for the first time, as well as EU nationals who may not know they are entitled to vote.

It is easy to apply online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in just a few minutes. Alternatively, you can register at the Electoral Registration Office at 16 Glasgow Road, Paisley.

To vote you must be registered by Monday 17th April 2017.

Speaking Mr Mackay said:

“With the Council election now less than 9 weeks away, the deadline to register to vote will be upon us before we know it. It is therefore very important that you make sure you are registered to vote, and if you are not registered that you take steps to register now.

“It is especially important that those who will be 16 or 17 by May 4th don’t miss out on having their say, because they don’t know they were entitled to vote, or know how to register.

“Similarly, EU nationals are entitled to vote, and it is important they have their voice heard, just like everyone else.

“It only takes a few seconds to register. Don’t miss out on having your say on who represents you at Holyrood or who forms the next administration in Renfrewshire Council.”
