The search is on to find 50 warm-hearted and committed people to join Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s Care at Home Service.

The Care at Home service supports the needs of vulnerable members of the Renfrewshire community, helping people to live safely and independently in their homes for as long as they can.

Councillor Iain McMillan, Chair of the Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The Home Care Workers help to provide personal, social and emotional support to service users and their families. We have a range of well paid jobs, giving people an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of people across Renfrewshire.”

Home Care Workers will help vulnerable people with all aspects of personal care, such as washing, dressing and support with medication and developing daily living skills.

AJ Campbell, 26, who works in the Johnstone district as a home care worker, said: “I was a hairdresser to begin with and I wouldn’t go back. I love my job because my dad is disabled and it was actually him that said I should try something else. Because I was living with someone with a disability, I know how they liked to be cared for and how they like to be treated.

“That’s why I also care for somebody like I would a family member. It’s so rewarding and you never leave work without knowing you’ve done some good because all the service users are so thankful for everything you do for them.”

Isabel McCluskey, 59, from Renfrew, works as a team leader for Reablement – a Care at Home service which supports people to regain independence following a stay in hospital or after an illness.

Isabel said: “I started working for the team in 1992 and have been doing this job for 24 years – caring for mostly older people over 65.

“You see someone come out of hospital and they’re quite frail, but when you’re leaving after your visit they are thanking you for everything you’ve done for them. It’s really rewarding.

“The best part of my job is meeting different people, from different walks of life and hearing the stories that they tell you. It’s amazing the life people have had and the people you meet.”

In return for making a difference to the lives of others, Care at Home workers will receive a starting salary of £8.33 an hour, guaranteed working hours, pension and access to comprehensive training and development.

Successful applicants will also be trained to SVQ2 Level standard in Health and Social Care, giving them the best chance to build their career in the care sector.

A number of permanent and temporary posts are available as part of Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s drive to expand their Care at Home service.

Councillor McMillan added: “There are real benefits to working within Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s Care at Home team. We are committed to the learning and development of our staff and offer a comprehensive training package and generous conditions of service.”
