Renfrewshire’s pupils were back in classrooms for a new term today – and staff at one school were seeing double as two sets of twins started P1 on the same day.

Young Eve and Luke Robertson, and Olivia and Marc Guy, were enjoying their first day at Lochfield Primary School in Paisley this morning.

And there must be something in the water at Lochfield – with four of the staff at the school being mothers of twins themselves, including head teacher Claire Macgregor-Duncan.

Claire said: “We are delighted to welcome all our new Primary Ones to Lochfield – it’s such a big day in their lives and one they will remember forever.

“Of course it’s a very proud moment for the parents as well – we had a few parents and grandparents looking emotional at the school gates earlier!

“We are also delighted to be home to two sets of twins – particularly given we are in the unusual position of having four staff who are already mums of twins of various ages themselves.”

Today was the first day of term for almost 25,000 pupils across Renfrewshire’s 11 secondary, 49 primary, and three additional support needs schools.

And Renfrewshire’s education convener, Councillor Jacqueline Henry, added: “I would like to wish all the very best to all our pupils as they go back to school today.

“Renfrewshire Council is utterly dedicated to making sure pupils of all ages and backgrounds get the best possible start in life in our schools.

“Our exam results have been improving year on year and we want to build on that even further in years to come.”
