Renowned for their all-white hackney cabs which can be seen across Renfrewshire, the company are showing their support for the culture bid by emblazoning the distinct Paisley 2021 branding on one of their taxis in their fleet.

The Paisley 2021 taxi is just the latest – and among the most visible – part of the campaign that will use the town’s internationally-significant collection of heritage and cultural assets to transform the town’s future with the benefits expected for the whole of Renfrewshire.

The taxi will take the Paisley 2021 message throughout Renfrewshire and the West of Scotland as a well-travelled ambassador for the bid, the town and its people – driven by one of Paisley Taxis’ knowledgeable and welcoming drivers.

Last week, The Vegan Leathers popped into the taxi for the first leg of their journey to T in the Park. The band are the first-ever people to take a ride in the Paisley 2021 taxi.

People can book the Paisley 2021 taxi for advance orders by calling 0141 889 9000 and requesting ‘the Paisley 2021 taxi’. Like all of Paisley Taxis’ fleet, the taxi is wheelchair accessible, clean and reliable.

Jean Cameron, Bid Director for Paisley 2021, said: “We are pleased to welcome Paisley Taxis on board to join the growing number of local businesses and organisations that are coming together to back the town’s bid.

“Paisley Taxis’ support in wrapping their vehicle in our distinctive branding and their enthusiasm for the bid is most welcome. Taxi drivers are great local ambassadors so to have them on board with Paisley 2021 is fantastic.

“Taxis are a great place for local storytelling and with the What’s Our Story? campaign for real stories of Paisley and Renfrewshire taking place right now, I’m sure we will be hearing a lot more gems in the next few weeks.

“A successful bid will showcase Renfrewshire in a positive light and bring many visitors and the associated benefits to the region. This will provide a welcome boost to our communities and businesses.”

It is expected than many people will want to book the Paisley 2021 taxi for regular trips, Glasgow Airport transfers, weddings and other special occasions.

Craig Allan, Paisley Taxis’ member and operator of the Paisley 2021 taxi, said: “I am extremely proud to be able to back the bid in such a visible and positive manner. A part of my job that I really enjoy is telling my passengers about the local area and what is going on in the town, so now to be able to just point at my taxi and tell them about Paisley 2021 is fantastic.

“There is lots of good stuff happening in Paisley and Renfrewshire, so if the bid gives us the chance to shout about that, then it is a great thing.”

Paisley’s bid for UK City of Culture 2021 is expected to be lodged with the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport in spring 2017.
